Alisa Fleming’s Dairy-Free Sundae Toppings

When So Delicious announced their Share a Moment, Raise a Pint event with multiple dairy-free sundae prize packs up for grabs, my mind immediately wandered from the underlying “share a moment” theme to “ooh, sundaes!” They say women are distracted by shiny things, but for me, it’s food. When a tasty concept is mentioned, I quickly fade away from the conversation as the little hamster in my brain is off to the races. And the mere suggestion of dairy-free sundaes sent me into a mental tailspin. To gather my thoughts, I ended up composing this post for Over 100 Dairy-Free Ice Cream Toppings.

Among that big list of sundae toppings, my current favorite is homemade magic shell. So easy, so versatile, and wow does it taste amazing with sea salt! Some fresh cherries and a pint of my new favorite frozen dessert (So Delicious Dairy Free Creamy Cashew) later, and this marvelous salted chocolate-covered cherry sundae was born.

But before I jump into the recipe, it’s time to set your hamster in motion. We’re ready to reward some of your fabulous food ideas with multiple cash prizes! I’m co-hosting the Snackable Recipe Contest with So Delicious (now through August 31st, 2015), and over $3500 will be given away to winners in three dairy-free snack recipe categories: Sweet, Savory and Sippable!

The Snackable Recipe Contest Feature

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget the sundae recipe … Makes 4 sundaes:

 Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Melt the chocolate and oil together in a double broiler or in the microwave on HIGH for 1 minute, then stir vigorously. If not fully melted, heat in 10 second intervals, stirring between, until just melted; do not overcook.
  2. Reserve 4 of the cherries. Stem, pit, and cut the remaining cherries into halves or quarters.
  3. Divide the cut cherries between 4 bowls and top with the frozen dessert. Drizzle on the chocolate sauce and then immediately top with a light sprinkle of sea salt; the chocolate sets up pretty quickly.
