Meet Joanna – Our First Fan Feature Friday Winner!

Posted in All Things Dairy-Free, Contests and Giveaways October 4, 2013

Earlier this week, we announced that our delicious Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk beverage is once again available for the fall. To celebrate the transition into a new season, we asked you, our wonderful fans, to tell us about your transition to living a dairy-free lifestyle. We’ve been touched, inspired, and awed by the flood of outstanding submissions we’ve received this week, and it was a tough decision to pick just one!

Below is the story of our first “Fan Feature Friday” winner! We’re sending Joanna a case of our Pumpkin Spice Coconut Milk, and you could be the next lucky winner! Simply leave a comment on our Facebook page telling us about how, when, and why you’re dairy-free, and you might be next week’s winner!

Here’s Joanna’s wonderful story, told in her own words:

Winner1

My journey on a dairy-free lifestyle began about nine months ago. I have had the absolute pleasure of becoming a first time mom, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! After completing a lovely pregnancy, labor, and delivery, I got to hold the love of my life. Our precious baby girl. She was and is such a sweet baby girl, but she encountered a few “hiccups” along the way.

During her first few months of life outside the womb, she often seemed VERY uncomfortable and was facing major tummy upsets, discomfort, and reflux. We couldn’t quite put our finger on the problem. Even after long periods of crying that led to belly X-rays, we still weren’t sure. It wasn’t until I was advised by my doctor to omit dairy, soy, and wheat out of my diet (a nursing mother), that we began to see improvements. I began to research and reconstruct my diet. Overall, my daughter was feeling better, and so was I!

My skin cleared up, and I felt more energized. Even though I could potentially start to add dairy back into my diet, I decided not to. I am so happy with this healthier lifestyle and have even encouraged other people, such as my husband, to jump on the bandwagon. I’m so happy to have SO Delicious as a part of my new lifestyle. My favorite products are the SO Delicious Vanilla Coconut Milk, SO Delicious Coconut Milk Raspberry Yogurt, and any of the SO Delicious Coconut Milk “ice creams!” I am so grateful for their products!

When you first embark on this new journey to a dairy-free lifestyle, especially because you would do anything to have your baby girl feel better, it can be very overwhelming. BUT, SO Delicious was right there and made the transition painless (due to their amazing products)!

Almost the exact same thing happened to me! My son for the first three months of his life had what the doctor finally deemed “colic” after running every test under the sun and running up our medical bills. I was at my wit’s end due to lack of sleep and feeling utterly helpless when my son would cry for 10 plus hours. Finally, a friend suggested I go dairy free (breast feeding mom). “What,” I thought, “that’s’ ridiculous!” But I had tried everything at that point and was desperate. So I gave up dairy and he was like a new baby! The “baby acne” cleared up immediately, no more explosive diapers, and most of all – no incessant screaming. So then I tried introducing soy and we were back at square one with “colic”. So I gave it all up and started researching where to get ice cream, yogurt, milk, etc alternatives and came across So Delicious. I was so happy that I literally couldn’t tell a difference in their yogurt and ice cream products vs ones made with dairy, and I loved the flavor of their coconut milk. I had originally been concerned about my calcium intake because it’s very important to breast feeding moms, but So Delicious products have plenty! I stopped breastfeeding at a year and we’ve both continued to eat/drink So Delicious products exclusively. With my next child I will use coconut milk with them as well because it is so much better for you and has medium chain fatty acids that are essential to a growing child’s brain development. I’m so happy with So Delicious products and am excited to try out the Pumpkin Coconut Milk!

Joanna, So glad you where able to figure out what was making your baby uncomfortable. Are you still eating wheat-free ?
